Imagine thousands of Christians lighting thousands of candles all over NZ, symbolic of the Church lighting up the darkness surrounding the abortion issue.

Could you/your church be the one to arrange for your City/Town to join in this Candle Light Vigil?

DATE and TIME:

10 HOURS on the 10^th DAY of the 10^th MONTH from 10pm

(That’s 10pm Friday 10^th October to 8am Saturday 11^th October)

The 10^th of October is the day the 40 days prayer focus begins.

LOOK ON THESE 10 HOURS AS:

Ø       A tithe to the Lord of 10 hours of your week.

Ø       A holy fast with no food during these 10 hours.

Ø       A watch of the Lord all night.

Ø       An opportunity for many to begin to get serious about the issue of abortion.

Ø       An opportunity to seek God together for His perspective about abortion.

Ø       An opportunity for corporate repentance, worship and prayer.

SOME IDEAS FOR YOUR 10 HOURS:

1. Have a large map of your city/town and pray over it, build up a wall of protection through prayer; pray for purity and life to prevail.
2. Find out where, on your large map of your city, the abortion clinic is and pray for it, the women who visit for abortions, those who perform abortions.
3. At the start have all who are involved stand outside, light your candles, and ‘parade’ into the dark room where you will spend your 10 hours.  Your candles will light up the darkness, symbolic of the Light of Christ entering into the darkness of this issue of abortion, but also for the darkness that still exists in our minds and understanding to be lit by the Light of Christ during the vigil.
4. Get the book by Dr Seuss, “Horton Hears a Who”, from your library and read it aloud to those present.  Elsewhere on this website is the prophetic parallel.  You could discuss this.  Maybe you can find a DVD copy from a video hire outlet and show this also.  Pray for the Church to pick up her role in this issue of abortion.
5. If you can find someone who has had an abortion and is willing to tell their story, this can be powerful, and lead to more prayer.  Alternatively, find a story in a book, or off the internet, and read that.  The September issue of “Baptist” has a story on page 14. (Ask your local Baptist church for a copy.)
6. Have a large cross and sit at the feet of Jesus, in silence, to capture His heart for abortion.  Discuss together what each has sensed God saying.  Pray.
7. Have some large pieces of paper, lots of magazines, newspapers, etc which have large titles, scissors, glue, felts, and create posters that express people’s feelings, understanding of abortion.  Display and discuss and pray about what is contributed.
8. Worship frequently to refocus on God, to wake people up.
9. Put sticky tape, with a word written on it (e.g. LIFE, DEATH, ABORTION), over the mouth of whoever is willing, so they are silenced, like aborted babies are silenced.
